Banda affects life across country

Daily life was partially affected owing to the general strike enforced by the Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) across the nation on Tuesday. Violent activities were reported from various places.

Transportation was disrupted while educational institutions and market places remained closed due to the banda in various provinces.

The outfit, which was banned by the government for carrying out violent and illegal activities, called the banda to protest the killing of its Sarlahi in-charge Kumar Paudel in ‘encounter’.

The suspected banda enforcers planted Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in Kailali, Baitadi, Bajhang, Pyuthan, Nawalparasi, Kaski, Palpa, Chitwan, Baglung, Sindhupalchok, Sindhuli, Solukhumbu, among other districts. There was no human casualty as the security personnel defused the explosives. A few vehicles were torched and vandalised while ward offices were set on fire.

According to the Achham District Police Office, an unidentified gang set the ward offices of Pancha Debal Municipality-3 and Dhakari Rural Municipality-5 on fire on Monday. Computers, printers, furniture and documents were destroyed in the arson.

Similarly in Nawalparasi, vehicle used by deputy mayor of Kawasoti Municipality was torched. The vehicle was parked at the deputy mayor’s residence in Amaltari.

In Rampur of Palpa, an unidentified group detonated an IED on the premises of Martyr Memorial Campus on Monday. A fence wall was damaged in the blast, said police.
