Silwal appointed member secretary of National Sports Council
Jul 9, 2019-
New Member Secretary of National Sports Council Ramesh Silwal said the successful organisation of South Asian Games would be his first priority after being appointed for the job on Monday.
The sub-continental sports meet is scheduled for December 1 to 10 in Nepal which features athletes from seven South Asian countries. “It was national shame that SAG was postponed thrice. Now I would work to hold the SAG on stipulated date. Rather than speaking I want to answer questions through my actions,” said Silwal who was the founder president of Madan Bhandari Sports Academy, a sports organisation close to Prime Minister KP Oli.
Silwal, also the chief executive of Golden International College and president of Higher Secondary School Association of Nepal, urged sports fraternity not to invite him in programmes like medal distribution.
“I would work without prejudice and take advice of all. But the final decisions in any case will be mine,” said Silwal, who was also the ad hoc president of Cricket Association of Nepal formed by National Sports Council in 2016.
The member secretary post has been vacant after Keshav Kumar Bista’s four year tenure ended on June 24. Silwal took the oath of office and secrecy at the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Singhadurbar before assuming office in Tripureshwor on Monday.
