Emergency fund set up to save infants and pregnant women
Apr 15, 2019-
Dogada Kedar Rural Municipality in Baitadi district has set up an emergency fund in a bid to reduce maternal and infant mortality rate in the local unit.
The emergency fund was established as many women and children die each year for want of treatment mainly due to financial constraints.
Parbati Airi, deputy chief of the local unit, said the fund will help in the treatment of women and children at risk.
The provision of the fund has elated the local women.
“Let’s hope that pregnant women from impoverished family won’t have to die due to lack of treatment,” said Sangita Bista of Dogada Kedar-3.
Dogada Kedar Rural Municipality has allocated Rs 120,000 budget to the emergency fund in the current fiscal year.
“Though the budget is minimal this year, we will increase the amount in the next fiscal year,” said Chief of the rural municipality Chakra Karki.
A five-member management committee under the chairmanship of the deputy chief has been formed to operate the fund in an effective way.
As per its working guidelines, the fund will also provide transportation expenses to those mothers and infants whose treatment is not possible within the district.
“The fund will be helpful in saving lives of mothers and infants at risk,” said Narendra Nath, health coordinator of the rural municipality.
