Shrestha duo claims table tennis gold, Thapa takes squash title

Nepal Police Club duo Santoo Shrestha and Nabita Shrestha claimed singles titles of the 40th National Table Tennis Championships under the eighth National Games in Ghorahi on Saturday.

The duo had also claimed the mixed doubles title on Thursday. Santoo eased past his club-mate Pradip Roka in straight sets of 11-1, 11-5, 11-6, 11-5 to give a dominating display. It was his third consecutive national men’s singles title. In the women’s gold medal clash, Nabita edged her sister-in-law Elina Maharjan of same team in sixth set.

After winning the first two sets 11-7, 11-5 Nabita lost the third 7-11 before pulling it off in the next taking it 11-9. Her slide resumed in the fifth set going 9-11. She recovered 12-10 in the sixth set to claim her eighth national singles title in a row. The event featured 160 players from 10 teams including seven from the provincial teams and three from departmental teams.
