Dahal warns of crisis if peace process and constitution are ignored
Feb 9, 2019-
Nepal Communist Party Co-chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that the country will face a crisis if the peace process and constitution are not implemented.
“Let’s not take peace process and constitution in a light manner. If we take these issues lightly, it will be costly for the country,” he said at an event in the Capital on Friday.
Dahal said that there were still doubts surrounding the implementation of the constitution and peace process.
“Are we really taking the central power to local levels and delivering service at people’s doorsteps? Have we implemented the constitution as per the spirit of the local and provincial levels in the federal set-up ?” Dahal said, adding that the rights needed at local levels must be devolved from the Singh Durbar.
Dahal said that many disadvantaged communities were still deprived of the rights given to them by the constitution. The former Maoist leader also claimed that people were being arrested against the spirit of the peace process.
“If the Maoist movement is sabotaged, another Maoist force will emerge and there will be an even bigger war,” Dahal warned.
Former home minister and NCP leader Janardan Sharma said the federal government should equip provincial and local levels with authority in line with the constitution.
“The constitution should be enforced fully to ensure development and prosperity,” he said.
